Randy McNamara: Living a Mission-Derived Life and Coaching a Climate-Conscious Future

🎙️ In this episode we sit down with Randy McNamara, a pioneer of transformation and one of Landmark’s most seasoned leaders. With over 50 years of experience leading programs that impact thousands of lives, Randy has retired from leading—but not from making a difference. He devotes himself full-time to a personal mission: empowering the people who are solving the world’s most pressing challenge—climate change.

From Forum Rooms to Forests, Mines, and Missions
Randy now coaches over 40 climate leaders and organizations every week, contributing to global efforts like:

  • The Pachamama Alliance, dedicated to environmental sustainability and spiritual fulfillment
  • IONER, developing the largest lithium mine in the U.S.
  • Black Jaguar Foundation, restoring millions of trees in Brazil
  • Global Security Institute, working to eliminate nuclear threats

He wakes up at 4 a.m. to begin his day of 30-minute coaching calls with changemakers around the globe. His method? Help each person see what’s getting in the way—then choose a way of being that’s aligned with their mission.

“I don’t coach climate strategy. I coach the people who lead climate strategy. I help them deal with resistance, fatigue, and pressure by shifting how the world occurs for them.”

Reimagining Retirement
Randy scoffs at the notion of slowing down. “Retire from what?” he asks. “We all want a life that matters. For me, that means waking people up so we take care of each other and make the world work.” His life is proof that contribution doesn’t have an expiration date—it only deepens with time.

Insights from a Life of Transformation
In the episode, Randy shares:

  • The breakthrough that shaped his life’s work
  • How Landmark’s distinctions shaped his unique coaching approach
  • Why working on something bigger than yourself gives energy, not just meaning
  • A personal story about forgiveness and being cause in the matter of your life—even in the face of tragedy
  • Why “playing the game” is more important than winning it

“A game is when you say something that doesn’t exist should exist—and you play your heart out to make it real.”

From Seriousness to Play—and Desk Rabbits
One of Randy’s gifts is his ability to bring lightness to even the most intense subjects. Whether he’s talking about climate change, leadership, or emotional healing, he reminds us that we don’t have to be grim to be powerful. (And yes, he has a small stuffed rabbit on his desk to keep himself from taking life too seriously.)
